Meet Our US Figure Skating Certified Coaches

  • Jacqueline Alimpich

    Jacqueline brings nearly two decades of coaching experience to the ice. She began her career teaching Learn to Skate programs during college and quickly expanded into private instruction. For over 15 years, she served as the Learn to Skate Coordinator at Walker Ice and Fitness Center before recently stepping down to allow for greater weekend flexibility.

    Jacqueline is passionate about making skating accessible to all and enjoys working with skaters of every age and ability level. She understands that while some skaters thrive in performance settings, others may prefer a more personal journey—and she encourages each individual to explore where skating can take them.

    Currently, Jacqueline coaches primarily at Holland Ice Arena (formerly Griff's IceHouse West), specializing in freestyle, moves in the field, power skating, and hockey development. She resides in Grand Rapids with her family and a lively household of pets.

  • Danielle Bozio

    Danielle Bozio has been skating for 22 years and coaching for 6 years. As a skater she loves moves in the field and Synchronized skating. She is the Skating School Director at Southside Ice Arena in Byron Center Michigan. She strives for a fun, welcoming, and engaging skating environment for all skaters and skill levels. She’s passionate about group training for young skaters but also loves the one on one setting of private lessons and thinks both are important! When she’s not at an ice rink, she’s busy at home with her husband, and 3 young children. Danielle coaches primarily at Southside and Kentwood Ice Arenas.

  • Ali Casteel

    Ali Casteel started skating at 6 years old and grew up skating in the metro Detroit area. She has passed Gold Moves in the field (skating skills) and Pre-Gold Ice Dance.  A former collegiate competitor for Michigan State University, she competed both freestyle and synchronized skating.  Following her collegiate career, she joined Harmony Theatre Company and competed nationally and internationally with the Senior team and Adult team. 

    She has over 13 years of coaching experience and enjoys working with students of all ages. 

    Whether it is individual or group instruction she has a passion for helping students set a strong skating foundation, build confidence and meet their goals.  

    After taking some time away from skating to focus on her young children and career as a Family Medicine PA, she is happy to be back on the ice and join the Lake Effect Figure Skating Club.

  • Alexis Dodd

    Coach Alexis brings a dynamic blend of competitive experience and technical coaching expertise to the ice. A former collegiate competitor for Central Michigan University, she developed a strong foundation in both freestyle and synchronized skating. As a member of the Senior Harmony Theatre company, she showcased artistry and athleticism on a national stage, further refining her performance skills and team leadership.

    With a deep passion for developing skaters to their highest level, Alexis has coached at the University of Illinois, working with athletes across all disciplines. Her coaching philosophy emphasizes strong fundamentals, edge quality, and a positive mindset.

    In addition to figure skating, Coach Alexis specializes in power skating for hockey players, working with athletes from beginner all the way up to collegiate hockey programs. Known for blending figure skating precision with the explosive demands of hockey, she has helped countless players improve their stride efficiency, balance, edge control, and on-ice agility.

    Whether training a young figure skater in their first jumps or refining a hockey player’s backward crossovers, Coach Alexis is dedicated to helping each athlete reach their full potential with a focus on skill, strength, and confidence.

  • Denise Hendershot

    Denise Hendershot has been skating for 25 years and offers a unique perspective beginning her figure skating journey as an adult. She started coaching private lessons in 2015 and has taught learn to skate at various rinks since 2005. Success in figure skating requires hard work and dedication but first and foremost it needs to be fun. Her goal as a coach is to help her students become the best skater they can be while having fun in the process. She strives to be a positive influence, role model, and mentor for every student. Denise enjoys teaching students of all ages and abilities to help them reach their goals big or small. I focus on fundamentals, moves in the field, jumps, and love teaching spins. When Denise is not on the ice, she is enjoying her new hobby of making and stoning figure skating dresses!

  • Stephanie Jursa

    Stephanie Jursa is a double gold medalist in both Freestyle and Moves in the Field skating. After years of competing at the amateur level Stephanie went on to a professional career with Disney On Ice. For 8 years Stephanie traveled the world performing and developing as a professional figure skater. Here she portrayed an array of different Disney Princesses and gained the knowledge and training of a pair skater. In later years she became an acrobatic skater, performing various circus acts on ice consisting of, the spanish web, aerial silks and strap routines. Stephanie also has an extensive background in ballet, yoga, barre and endurance training. She loves to get to share her love and passion for the ice with everyone and is happy to help with specific trainings or be a head coach. She primarily coaches at Holland Ice Arena (formerly Griff’s IceHouse West) in Holland.

  • Jessica Lohr

    Jessica Lohr has been skating for 26 years. She grew up skating in the metro Detroit area, where she competed with the Gems on Ice and Hockettes synchronized skating teams. She now lives in the Grand Rapids area with her husband Jack and their dog Luna!

    Jess specializes in coaching Synchro, Moves in the Field and Ice Dance, and primarily coaches at Southside/Kentwood. She has coached a synchronized skating team for the past 8 years, previously coaching the GVSU Synchronized Skating Team, and now coaching the Lake Effect Flurries. In addition to Synchro, she has been coaching private lessons as a PSA Certified Professional Skating Coach and a Certified Learn to Skate Instructor for over 10 years.

  • Brooke Mishica

    Brooke has been skating since she was 5 years old and has passed Senior (Gold ) moves and Novice (Silver) freestyle. She is the Director of Lakeshore Skating Academy in Muskegon, where she coaches both group and private lessons. Brooke believes skating is for everyone and loves to see adults take up the sport. She lives in Spring Lake with her husband and two daughters.

  • Sarah Tuzinowski

    I have been skating ever since I was 4 years old. I grew up skating in the Ann Arbor Area, where I competed with the Hockettes Synchronized Skating Teams nationally and internationally. I am a triple gold medalist in Ice Dance, Moves in the Field (Skating Skills), and Solo Free Dance. I just completed my undergraduate degree at Miami University, where I skated for the Collegiate Varsity Synchronized Skating Team and became a 4-time national champion. I strive to make figure skating accessible and fun for everyone while teaching strong foundational skating skills across all disciplines. I have now made my way over to Grand Rapids to complete my master's degree in occupational therapy at Grand Valley!

  • Kayla Vallier

    Professional Figure Skating Coach with more than 20 years of experience dedicated to helping skaters of all ages and abilities grow both on and off the ice. Specializing in Learn to Skate USA, Moves in the Field, and athlete-centered coaching, I strive to create a positive, supportive, and encouraging environment where skaters can build confidence, develop strong fundamentals, and achieve their personal goals. I am known for my patient, approachable coaching style and my ability to build meaningful relationships with skaters and their families. As the co-founder of Lakeshore Skating Academy in 2019 and a leader within local skating programs, I am committed to fostering a love for skating and contributing to the continued growth of the sport.

  • Jackie Wargel

    With over 34 years of figure skating experience, Jackie brings a fun and encouraging energy to every lesson. She competed for 15 years in freestyle and synchronized skating and has coached collegiately at Indiana University. Jackie primarily coaches at Griffs Ice House West (formerly Griffs IceHouse West) and works with skaters of all levels and ages. Known for her attention to detail, she helps students become well-rounded skaters, grow in confidence and self-expression, and develop both on and off the ice through mentoring and personalized guidance for each individual journey to the ice or returning to the ice. Jackie loves helping skaters build strong technique and confidence, with tailored off-ice training to support balance, strength, and artistry, all while keeping lessons positive and fun.
